WORKING TOGETHER

With a dedicated project manager and a professional team of site technicians, construction takes between 10-15 working days, depending on the size and complexity of the build and weather conditions. Some of our standard garden cabins can be built in two days!

Your project manager will visit your site regularly to ensure the quality and progress of installation remains on track and safe working methods are maintained. We carry out site-specific risk assessments and method statements for all projects, identifying and controlling hazards before arriving and dynamically whilst onsite.

Foundations

Garden Cabin With a SIP Floor

Garden Cabin Without a SIP Floor

Greenway carries out all the groundwork necessary for your site foundations and includes details of your specific needs in the building quote.

There are three approaches to foundations for your garden cabin footing, and your site should be prepared and ready ahead of the SIPs structure installation. Greenway will recommend the necessary groundwork for your garden cabin installation upon your first site visit.

Concrete slabs are an option for the base for your SIPs structure. You will need to ensure the building of a small masonry dwarf wall out around the base's perimeter for your SIPs.

SIPs galvanised ground screws

Galvanised ground screws wound into the ground with precision create a firm and level platform for your garden cabin room, office or leisure building. Environmentally safe, ground screws offer a considerable reduction of emitted carbon compared to a traditional concrete base.

SIPs Floor Pads

Recycled plastic pads offer another innovative solution, especially where the rocky ground makes digging difficult. Environmentally, the places can also be a great way to reduce your carbon impact.

What Are SIPs?

Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are high-performance residential and light commercial construction systems. The panels have an insulating, eco-friendly, construction-grade expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam core, and are sandwiched between two structural facings, typically constructed using strand boards (OSB).

Any SIPs build results in a solid, energy-efficient, and cost-effective structure.

Greenway EcoLogic SIPs

SIPs are manufactured under factory-controlled conditions and fabricated to fit nearly any building design. Each composite panel is robust, lightweight and highly substantial – up to seven times stronger than a timber frame. SIPs are incredibly well insulated and airtight, resulting in a structure requiring less heat energy and providing better air quality for the user.

  • SIPs are popular in the USA, Canada, Japan and Europe. Since the 1950s, they have become mainstream building materials for homes, outside annexe buildings and garden cabins.
  • SIPs are becoming increasingly popular in the UK due to the rising interest in sustainability, the ever-rising price of energy, and a drive towards using more local construction and manufacturing companies.

Facts About SIPs

  • Building with SIPs as the structural element for property walls, roofs and suspended floors is quick, easy and cost-effective.

Facts About SIPs by Greenway

More Facts About SIPs

  • SIPs panels are joined together with an insulated SIP spline. A full-length spline joins both panels together. Each spline is insulated with eco-friendly EPS (expanded polystyrene) and also has an outer OSB (oriented strand board) skin to strengthen the joint. A joint like this helps to eliminate cold bridging where there are spaces in the continuous insulation where hot air can escape from the building, and cold air can leak in. Insulated splines solidify the joints and create an airtight join making every structure exceptionally strong and thermally resistant.
  • SIPs splines between the panels ensure a structurally sound framed system with panels fixed to the footings via a timber sole plate or recycled plastic pad and to the ceiling via a sustainable timber ring beam, making your structure one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly structures around.
  • Traditional timber frame houses can lose more than 30% of created energy, whereas the EcoLogic panels, paired with insulated splines, drastically reduce the amount of energy escaping. There's also no risk of compression shrinkage typically associated with stud walls and other traditional frame methods.

Why Choose Greenway Garden Cabins and SIPs Constructed Buildings?

The SIPs construction method offers many project benefits for architects, planners, developers and builders. Below are just some of the main advantages of having a Greenway SIP construction instead of opting for more traditional building methods.

  • SIPs can be erected up to 60% faster than traditional construction methods.
  • Unlike conventional construction methods, which rely on good weather, a SIP garden cabin installation continues regardless of debilitating weather conditions.
  • The EPS core insulation is 98% air and just 2% recyclable plastic. All the core insulation is 100% recyclable and provides an incredible U-value of 0.19 per 178mm panel.
  • A SIPs lightweight shell reduces the need for machinery and concrete production onsite, lowering your CO2 emission.
  • The timber OSB and structural framework come from sustainable FSC-accredited sources.
  • SIP structures are more attractive to future buyers and achieve a higher sale price due to higher-build quality and lower running costs than traditionally constructed garden cabins or outbuildings.
