Cut bamboo fencing is a much better sustainable alternative for eco-friendly gardens and comes in various styles, heights and widths. Mixed with other materials such as slate or concrete in an aluminium frame, it makes for a stunning contemporary look.
The six most popular types of fencing are:
Strongest Fence Material
Steel fences or wrought iron fences are unbeatable for security fencing. Both of these options are incredibly strong with long lifespans. They're easy to maintain if you check the finish and repair any damage to avoid rust. Different heights, styles and finishes are available.
Cheapest Fence Material
The cheapest fence material is vinyl or PVC; however, extreme weather can damage the material quickly. It is not very eco-friendly, and algae, mould and mildew can cause staining.
Most Durable Fence Type
Chain-link fences with a galvanized finish that won't rust are the longest-lasting fences. All other fence components are made of steel and galvanized, so there is relatively no maintenance.
Sweet chestnut timber is very durable and resistant to rot. It cleaves or splits easily along the grain making it an ideal choice for pegs, stake or fencing.
Lattice trellis panels make timeless screens and feature structures in your garden and are ideal for use with climbing plants.
While not very environmentally friendly vinyl fences are a great wooden fence replacement, requiring less care with a much longer lifespan of up to 20-30 years.
High-performance concrete and wire mesh fence solutions are chosen by homeowners, contractors and specifiers for their quality, durability and long-term reliability.
A horizontal fence is now the modern-day popular choice. This rapidly growing style of privacy fence compliments any home or commercial property with styles from contemporary to rustic.
A combination fence save on installation costs and reduces maintenance. Mixing fencing materials and styles also adds eye-catching interest to the landscape.
Frosted Toughened Glass is often and very effectively used as a privacy screen on balconies and patio areas. Frosted glass brings an exciting new style to garden fencing, giving you the chance to get as creative as you like.
Wrought iron gives a classical look to contemporary and traditional style properties. It generally lasts longer than aluminium and while the initial investment may high, you can save in the long run providing the iron is well maintained.
Ready-grown instant hedging screens are an environmentally-friendly way to create a secure boundary and are versatile and low-maintenance. They attract wildlife and reduce air toxins contributing to overall wellbeing. Options include classic Ivy, Beech and Hornbeam, or stunning flowering options such as Star Jasmine.

Today, aluminium is slowly replacing wood and wrought iron for fencing and gates. One of the main factors that make aluminium so eco-friendly is its ability to be recycled. Unlike other materials that will deteriorate over time, aluminium remains strong and doesn't loose any quality through the recycling process. Did you know over 70% of the aluminium currently being used is recycled!

Cheapest to most expensive gate solutions:
There are also five main types of opening & closing styles:
Ornamental gates are often heavier than wooden ones, and usually black in colour. Wrought iron gates are frequently used as entry gates, but can be used as garden gates. Decorative gates look best when connected to a decorative or complimentary fence that surrounds the property.
Greenway are experienced in carpentry and stonemasonry to ensure the designs you wish for are made into a reality. Entrance gates with the wow-factor are available in a range in materials and styles to compliment any theme of property.
Sliding gates are handcrafted to any size and come in a huge range of sliding designs and finishes to include manual or electric opening systems.
Greenway can offer a choice of metal garden gates, wooden garden gates, and metal railing gates and can cater for every size or style of garden with a high-quality partitioning or decorative entrance.
A side gate is attached to the side of the property instead of in a run of fencing. Usually side gates restrict access to the rear of the property via an alley or gate. They can range in materials and styles to compliment any theme of property.
Greenway offer a wide range of garden and driveway entrance gates in a variety of styles from timeless traditional to modern contemporary.
Electrical Supply Access is Easy With Greenway
If you require remote access a motor is connected to your electrical supply. If there isn't easy access to electric, Greenway can bring your electricity supply closer to your gate.
Driveway Slope
A swing gate isn't ideal if you have an upward slope at the entrance to your driveway. A swing gate can be installed if you use hinges that tilt the gate upwards as it opens. Some people have swinging gates with a large gap at the bottom which doesn't provide much security. It also lacks an attractive appearance. Bespoke solutions are available for additional costs.
Driveway Size
The size of your entry will also have a bearing on the cost. If it is an unusual size, you may have to have bespoke gates rather than buying a standard size.
Bespoke gates will cost more because are hand-made and take much more time and manual labour to produce.
Types of Opening & Closing Styles
For many homeowners, the primary consideration when deciding on the proper fencing and gates is the overall price of investment. This outlay covers the material and the labour involved in completing the job. Some materials are easier and quicker to install than others. Other systems are cheap to manufacture from local sources and don't have associated import fees or costs.
As a general rule, there are pros and cons for each type of material. Some options are much more budget-friendly but remember cutting costs isn't always the right choice.
Suppose you are trying to make a decision about your fencing or gate installation. In that case, you must factor in FOUR main criteria before choosing the company to install your chosen solution:
