thE CASTLE INN PROJECT - Isle of Wight

The Castle Inn is the oldest pub in Newport, dating back to 1550 and is located in the heart of the town. The pub has a rich history as it was once part of a secret passage way to Carisbrooke Castle for King Charles.

The pub provides a friendly, warm and traditional place to enjoy a selection of ales and locally sourced food. While the interior was cosy and welcoming the pub garden had fallen into a state of disrepair.

Wanting to make use of the sun-trap of a garden the pub reached out to Greenway for help.

What Was Needed

The Castle Inn wanted a complete transformation of their beer garden to update and modernise the outdoor area and keep their patrons happy and content for longer.

They needed to get rid of the poorly laid artificial grass and add some more privacy and ambiance to the whole look and feel of the space.

The Castle Inn landlord said there was also an unused area full of old rubbish, broken furniture and general plant waste that had been sitting untouched for years.  Plus, they wanted the area restricted to staff access only.

There was also a difficult sloping area they wanted solution ideas for,  and some challenging flower-beds they wanted help with too.

Read on to see how Greenway addressed these issues and more!

What We Did

The Greenway Landscaping team completely remodelled the outside area of the pub garden giving it a well-needed makeover.

The tired looking artificial grass is now replaced with a high-quality, durable resin-bound patio area that creates a modern, but still traditional, look and feel.

The unused area behind the old fence is now transformed with attractive wooden fence panels and privacy gate. All the unsightly rubbish is cleared away revealing ample space for the pub to utilise with a walk-in fridge, to cater for all the extra servings required!

The difficult sloping area now benefits from a stunning set of decked steps with rope handles and sectioned by a beautiful flower bed boxed with wooden decking panels for easier garden maintenance.

Before & After

The client was thrilled with the workmanship, speed and reliability of the landscaping team. They even had a raving, roving fan that followed them round the Isele of Wight on every subsequent job. Taking photos and raving about how quick and efficent the team were!
